Many wonder — is Jesus Just a Great Teacher, a Great Prophet, or God Himself?
The best way to know the truth is to see what the Bible says about Him.
👑 What God Says About Jesus
The Bible records several moments where God the Father speaks directly about Jesus:
-
At His Baptism:
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (📖 Matthew 3:17)
-
At the Transfiguration:
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” (📖 Matthew 17:5)
And one of the most well-known verses, 📖 John 3:16, explains why God sent Him:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
These verses make it clear that Jesus is the Son of God, sent by the Father out of love, so that all who believe in Him can be saved and receive eternal life.
🌟 What Angels Said About Jesus
To Mary – The angel Gabriel said:
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; His kingdom will never end.” (📖 Luke 1:33)
To Joseph – An angel appeared in a dream, saying:
“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” (📖 Matthew 1:20–21)
To the shepherds – An angel announced:
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.” (📖 Luke 2:10–11)
At the empty tomb – An angel told the women:
“He is not here; He has risen" (📖 Matthew 28:6)
These verses reveal that from His birth to His resurrection, Jesus was declared the promised Savior and eternal King, sent to bring salvation to the world.
👿 What Demons Said About Jesus
Recognized Him as the Holy One of God
In the synagogue, a man possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” (📖 Mark 1:23–24). The demon didn’t just know His name—it knew His divine nature.
Acknowledged Him as the Son of God
On several occasions, demons shouted, “You are the Son of God!” (📖 Luke 4:41). They were fully aware of His heavenly origin, even when humans around Him were still uncertain.
Feared His Authority and Judgment
When Jesus confronted two demon-possessed men, the spirits trembled and cried out, “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” (📖 Matthew 8:28–29). They knew a final judgment awaited them, and they feared it.
Knew He Had Power to Destroy Them
Another demon cried, “Have you come to destroy us?” (📖 Mark 1:24). This wasn’t just fear—it was acknowledgment that Jesus had absolute authority over their existence.
These verses show that even the demons knew exactly who Jesus was—they recognized His divinity, feared His authority, and understood His power over them. Even when people doubted or questioned Him, the spiritual world had no confusion about His identity.
🗣️ What People or Crowds Said About Jesus
Throughout His ministry, people tried to understand who Jesus truly was — and their responses revealed their hearts.
His followers:
-
Peter said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (📖 Matthew 16:16).
-
Thomas called Him, “My Lord and my God!” (📖 John 20:28).
-
Martha said, “I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God” (📖 John 11:27).
-
John the Baptist called Him, “The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (📖 John 1:29).
Religious leaders:
-
Nicodemus said, “Rabbi, we know You have come from God as a teacher” (📖 John 3:2).
-
Some accused Jesus of being possessed by evil spirits, saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul” (📖 Mark 3:22)
Non-Jews:
The crowds:
-
After a miracle, some said, “This is the Prophet who is to come into the world” (📖 John 6:14).
-
When Jesus asked His disciples what others said, they replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and others say one of the prophets” (📖 Mark 8:28).
-
King Herod thought Jesus was John the Baptist risen from the dead, while others said He was Elijah or another prophet (📖 Mark 6:14–15).
👑 What Does Jesus Say About Himself ?
During His time on earth, Jesus didn’t openly say, “I am God,” nor did He directly ask people to worship or pray to Him. Instead, He revealed His true identity gradually, through profound teachings and meaningful conversations. He spoke of His existence before time began, His unique and intimate relationship with God the Father, and the divine mission He came to accomplish.
📖 John 8:58 – “Before Abraham was born, I am.”
Here, Jesus uses the phrase “I AM,” echoing the name God used for Himself in 📖 Exodus 3:14 (“I AM WHO I AM”). This caused many Jews to react strongly, understanding it as a claim to eternal existence and divinity.
📖 John 17:5 – “And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began.”
This statement points to Jesus’ pre-existence and His divine relationship with the Father before creation.
📖 John 10:30 – “I and the Father are one.”
A bold statement that led many to accuse Him of blasphemy, recognizing that He was claiming equality with God (see 📖 John 10:33).
📖 John 4:25–26 – (To the Samaritan woman) The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am He.”
One of the rare times Jesus openly and directly told someone He was the Messiah.
📖 John 14:6 – “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Not just a teacher of truth—He claimed to be the truth and the only way to God.
While Jesus revealed glimpses of His divine identity, He lived on earth as a human being, entirely dependent on the Father. He was filled with the Holy Spirit without measure (📖 John 3:34), and through the power of the Spirit, He carried out His ministry.
📣 What Did People, Angels, or Jesus Himself Say About Him After the Resurrection
Thomas – When he saw the risen Jesus and touched His wounds, Thomas exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” (📖 John 20:28)
Two Disciples on the Road to Emmaus – After Jesus broke bread with them and vanished, they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (📖 Luke 24:32)
Angels at the Tomb – The angels said to the women, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!” (📖 Luke 24:5–6)
Jesus to His Disciples – Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (📖 Matthew 28:18)
Jesus to the Disciples – “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” (📖 Luke 24:44)
The Disciples in the Upper Room – “We have seen the Lord!” (📖 John 20:25) — Their personal testimony of encountering the risen Jesus.
These verses show that after His resurrection, Jesus was proclaimed by His followers, announced by angels, and affirmed by His own words as the risen Lord, the promised Messiah, and the One with all authority.
📜 What Does Revelation or Prophecy Say About Jesus
The First and the Last – Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (📖 Revelation 22:13) — A title that in the Old Testament belongs to God alone (📖 Isaiah 44:6), showing that He is eternal and the source of life.
Worthy of Worship – “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” (📖 Revelation 5:13) — All creation worships Jesus along with the Father, something God said belongs to Him alone (📖 Exodus 34:14).
The Coming Judge – “Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him.” (📖 Revelation 1:7) — A role reserved for God, connecting to the prophecy in 📖 Daniel 7:13–14 about the Son of Man receiving everlasting dominion.
Revelation doesn’t present Jesus as just a prophet or teacher, but as the eternal God, the rightful Judge, and the One who reigns on heaven’s throne.
✝ Closing Thoughts
From the voices of angels announcing His birth, to demons trembling at His authority, to God Himself calling Him His beloved Son—every testimony in Scripture points to one truth:
Jesus is the Son of God and the promised Messiah. He and the Father are one (📖 John 10:30), and without Him, no one can enter eternal life with God (📖 John 14:6).
It is through Him alone that we are saved and receive the gift of salvation (📖 Acts 4:12; 📖 Ephesians 2:8–9).
"The question is—who do you say He is?" (📖 Matthew 16:15)
