🪞 Made in God’s Image
The Bible says in 📖 Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
This means God made us to be like Him in a special way — not in looks, but in spirit. As Jesus says in 📖 John 4:24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” so He gave us a spirit too. The spirit is what allows us to have fellowship with God.
👼 Spiritual Beings in God’s Creation
We are not the only spiritual beings God created. The Bible says that angels are spirits too sent to serve those who follow God:
📖 Hebrews 1:14 "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to provide service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?"
But not all spirits are good. Evil spirits are actually fallen angels who followed Satan when they rebelled against God.
The Bible says in 📖 Revelation 12:9 "The great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan... and his angels were thrown down with him."
This is why we must be careful what kind of spirit we open ourselves up to — not every spiritual influence is from God.
🧠 The Three Parts of You: Spirit, Soul, and Body
Now we are not just body and spirit — we also have a soul, which includes our mind, emotions, and will.
📖 1 Thessalonians 5:23 says "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit, soul, and body be kept complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Think of your body like a house. Your spirit is the one who lives in that house. Your soul is like the control center — it holds your thoughts, feelings, and choices. The soul decides what comes in and what stays out. It opens the door to either the Holy Spirit or to other spirits.
🚪 A Door Opened by Choice: The Story of Cain
We see this clearly in the story of Cain and Abel in 📖 Genesis 4.
God warned Cain that sin was waiting at his door, but he had to control it:
📖 Genesis 4:7 "Sin is lurking at the door... but you must master it."
Cain chose anger, and that gave sin power over him. If he had chosen peace, things would have been different. The same goes for us today. Spirits can’t control us unless we let them in.
🍎 The Fall: When Spirit Was Corrupted
When Adam and Eve sinned, that spirit was corrupted, and God could no longer dwell among corrupted human beings. Sin broke the spiritual connection.
That’s why Jesus said we must be born again. 📖 John 3:5–6 "Truly, truly I say to you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit."
He came to purify the spirit that was corrupted in Eden. Through belief in Him and obedience to His Word, our spirits are made new, and the Holy Spirit can dwell in us again — just as God originally intended. This is how we are made ready for Heaven.
👤 Why Spirits Seek a Body
On earth, a spirit requires a body to express itself. That’s why both good and evil spirits seek vessels. Even Jesus said:
📖 Matthew 12:43–44 "Now when the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order."
Even evil spirits call the body “my house”, revealing their desire to dwell in human vessel.
🔑 The Body’s Curse and the Spirit’s Future
Now because of sin, the body also came under a curse. God told Adam:
📖 Genesis 3:19 "By the sweat of your face you will eat bread, until you return to the ground, because from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
That’s why people get sick, suffer, and die. The body is temporary — but the spirit lives on. That’s why your spiritual condition is what decides your eternal future.
🌍 The Final Truth
So here is the full picture:
-
You are not just a body — that’s just your house.
-
You are a spirit, living in a body, and you have a soul that chooses who gets to come in.
-
If you give your heart to Jesus, He will cleanse your spirit, live inside you, and one day take you to live with Him forever.
